HOW DOES CBD WORK? A.K.A. THE SCIENCY-STUFF
CBD is one of more than 80 chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant, known as cannabinoids. Cannabinoids are agonists that bind to special receptors on your cells called cannabinoid receptors. Cannabinoid receptors are found throughout the body in almost every organ, including the central nervous system, the digestive tract, and even the skin. These receptors make up a larger endocannabinoid system (ECS) that is thought to be the greatest neurotransmitter system in the body. The ECS effects just about everything including:
- Motor control
- Immune function
- Pain perception
- Bone development
In simple terms, cannabinoid receptors act as locks on the cells, and CBD acts as the key to open the lock.
